"In The Weeds" and Other Things

“In the weeds”… a term used in the restaurant industry… is a colloquial expression used when persons are near or beyond their capacity to handle a situation or cannot catch up. Struggling. Very busy.

THANKFULLY, I have spent a couple of days “in the weeds” during the past week..between business and family events. But all is well…PEOPLE STILL WANT TO TRAVEL! And, I am HAPPY to help them get where they want to go, especially if it is Europe.

One of the highlights of the past week was dinner at Jasper’s. Last October, members of our SLOW FOOD conviviun traveled to Sicily. One of the best things about the trip was a visit to Bar Golden in Ghibellina , on the west side of Sicily and south of Palermo. Bar Golden is owned and operated by Jasper’s cousin… Jasper Mirabile…yes, they have the same name. It was such a special experience. "Reno" is known locally for the BEST gelato and granita....It's the truth!

“Reno” (Jasper’s cousin) has been in Kansas City for the past few weeks for the wedding of Jasper Mirabile III (Jasper’s nephew)…Do we need a family tree graph to keep track of the players?

Anyway, May 15 was my husband Bill’s birthday…so we went to Jasper’s for dinner. Reno was “in the house” and fixed two Sicilian dishs for us. Pasta with olive oil, garlic and basil…and for dessert …lemon granita with fresh watermelon. Oh my, what a treat!

These are the special events that travel opens to you. People to people connections! Our world is smaller and more special when we make connections through family and friends.
